Welcome to Proportional Technologies, Inc. (PTI).
Thank you for visiting our new fully updated web site. If you are interested in some of our older developments prior to 2004, our former site can still be reached here.
PTI was established in 1991 with a strong commitment to the development of innovative yet practical, radiation-related technologies. Our efforts lie broadly within this field, ranging from radiopharmaceutical and instrumentation products used in nuclear medicine to radiation detection and imaging devices for materials science and homeland security applications.
The 62Zn/62Cu generator is one of the few systems that nature has made available for practical widespread clinical distribution of short lived PET imaging agents. Our second generation 62Zn/62Cu micro-generator and instant synthesis kits provide facile clinical preparation of 62Cu labeled perfusion and hypoxia agents. Analogous higher capacity kits have also been developed for use with the 12.7 hr 64Cu. This isotope can also be readily distributed by overnight delivery from a centralized production center and using the PTI H2ATSM kit clinicians can readily produce multiple doses of radiolabeled 64Cu-ATSM an agent under investigation for tumor hypoxia imaging.
PTI has become active in the field of homeland security as well. Our first product in this field, a portable hand held directional neutron/gamma detector is now available.
We also have a number of promising emerging products, that are at various stages of development, including a dedicated PET camera for breast imaging. Through use of our unique straw radiation detectors, revolutionary PET imaging configurations are being pursued that substantially enhance sensitivity while completely eliminating depth of interaction resolution degradation that plagues crystal detectors used in all existing commercial PET systems ("A Positron Emission Mammography System Based on 4 mm Straw Detectors").
We are also pursuing development of a small animal PET imaging system. Through use of exceptionally small diameter 2 mm straws this system promises to reach the long sought after resolution goal approaching 1 µl. Through elimination of depth of interaction errors this system will at the same time offer a volumetric field of view that is100 fold larger than that of current commercial systems ("Small Animal PET Camera Design Based on 2-mm Straw Detectors").
In the materials science field PTI has developed a large area very high rate neutron imaging detector aimed at meeting the demanding needs of the Spallation Neutron Source at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Through use of unique patented 1 meter long straw detectors a 1 m2 detector is under development providing excellent spatial resolution and gamma ray rejection rivaling that of pressurized 3He detectors. Through use of a highly segmented design the device will reach unexcelled count rate levels and parallax problems are completely eliminated ("Performance of 1 Meter Straw Detector for High Rate Neutron Imaging").
In the Homeland Security area emerging products include a large area (1 m2) directional neutron gamma detector capable of detecting and locating both gamma sources and fissile neutron sources at great standoff distance. Also being developed is a high pressure xenon gas gamma ray spectrometer aimed at satisfying the need for large area highly sensitive gamma detection providing high quality isotopic identification. Xenon is the only medium nature has supplied that can provide low cost detectors containing the multi-kilogram quantities of high z medium required. This new product utilizes a unique spectroscopic resolution improvement methodology employing simultaneous light and charge measurement that was conceived and patented by PTI ("Cylindrical High Pressure Xenon Spectrometer Using Scintillation Light Pulse Correction").
